Our program is primarily interested in MA students intending to complete the Doctoral Degree. Please send us a statement of purpose, telling of your intellectual history and development, and your specific goals in research and teaching. You should also send a writing sample, a graded essay written for one of your upper level undergraduate courses. No applicant will be considered until all the required materials have been received.

  • Undergraduate Cumulative Grade Point Average:
    3.4 or equivalent required
  • Graduate Record Examination (GRE):
    Required - Verbal, Quantitative, and Analytical

International Applicant Requirements:

  • Undergraduate Cumulative Grade Point Average:
    3.4 or equivalent required
  • Graduate Record Examination (GRE):
    Required - Verbal, Quantitative, and Analytical
  • TOEFL for Non-Native English Speakers:
    Minimum Paper-Based Test (PBT) Score Required: 620
    Minimum Internet-Based Test (IBT) Overall Score Required: 77
    With the following minimum section requirements:
    Reading: 19
    Listening: 14
    Speaking: 18
    Writing: 18
  • IELTS (Academic Module):
    An alternative to the TOEFL, scores of 6.5 or higher will be accepted
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE) (Academic Module):
    An alternative to the TOEFL, scores of 58 or higher will be accepted

You should also send your MA thesis or publication resulting from it; as a backup, you can send a graded essay written for one of your classes as a master’s student.
