Medical Humanities Certificate Requirements (18 credits)


At least 50% of credits for the CLA certificate must be from Purdue University.

Requirements for the certificate:


Capstone projects must be registered and approved by the Program Director through Medical Humanities Capstone Application  form available on Medical Humanities website to fulfill certificate requirement.

Students must earn a “C-” or better in each Certificate course.

A. Required Courses (15 credits)


15 hours (5 courses) are required with at least 6 hours from each the Social Science and Humanities Categories. Other electives may be considered with a medical humanities focus with the permission of the program director.

B. Interdisciplinary Capstone Project (3 credits)


Select one 400-500 level class from the elective list which must result in an interdisciplinary Medical Humanities project.

The capstone project offers an opportunity to develop an extended interdisciplinary analysis of a significant problem in medical humanities. Individual project advisors will specify the precise requirements for the project. Capstone projects must be registered and approved by the Program Director through Medical Humanities Capstone Application  form available on Medical Humanities website to fulfill certificate requirement.

Students must earn a “C-” or better in each Certificate course.

*These are variable title and/or variable credit courses. These courses may be applied to the Medical Humanities Certificate only in cases where the content is extensively relevant to Medical Humanities.
