HDFS 21000 - Introduction To Human Development (UCC: BSS)


Credit Hours: 3.00.  This course provides an introduction to the development of individuals from the prenatal period to adulthood and old age. Theories and research findings related to physical growth, cognitive and language development and social and emotional development will be discussed. CTL: Developmental Psychology.  
Learning Outcomes
1. Identify key physical, cognitive, emotional, and social characteristics at each life stage. 2. Identify the basic tenets of leading theories in human development. 3. Distinguish among prominent methods used in developmental research and identify their strengths and weaknesses. 4. Explain the relationships among different domains of development (i.e. biological, psychological, and social) and how they affect one another across the life course. 5. Make predictions about developmental outcomes that are grounded in theory.
