EAPS 22100 - Survey Of Atmospheric Science (UCC: SCI) Credit Hours: 3.00. (NRES 23000 ) An introductory course for both science and nonscience students. A general study of the atmosphere, basic meteorological principles, and weather systems. Relationships of the changing atmosphere to climate ozone depletion, and other contemporary issues. Learning Outcomes 1. Understand and describe a wide range of meteorological phenomena using fundamental principles of physics and chemistry.
2. Learn a unified approach that relates the behavior of air parcels acting under forces to the observed weather and climate.
3. Represent weather parameters quantitatively on maps and charts.
4. Identify the principal threat to the stratospheric ozone shield and the gases responsible for the greenhouse effect.
5. Understand the Coriolis effect and how it determines wind direction and circulation in cyclones and anticyclones in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.
