TECH 63100 - Global Perspectives On Emerging Technologies


Credit Hours: 3.00.  This course centers on an in-depth treatment of the discipline of technology and its intersections with culture, innovation and economics. Systematic analysis of technology and its international dimensions will be required as is horizon scanning, both nationally and internationally. Proficient written and oral communication is necessary for success. Permission of department required.
Learning Outcomes
1. Develop and report an informed analysis of the influence (psychological, sociological and other) of technology on the culture, education, economy, lifestyle, standard of living of countries.
2. Compare and contrast selected country practices of technological human resource development/education and evaluate their capability to provide technically proficient personnel.
3. Advance and synthesize their international perspectives on the impacts that current and emerging technologies have on the economies, supply chain, culture, governance, environments and political character of developed and developing nations.
4. Perform a systematic horizon scan to identify, evaluate and synthesize key resources, i.e., publications, associations, agencies, etc., of relevance to advancing their practice of technology development, leadership and education.
5. Employ technology systems analysis procedures to explain the evolution trajectory of a historical or emerging technology.
6. Analyze and evaluate selected strategies for promotion and advancement of technological innovation capabilities of individuals, enterprises and nations.
7. Research, and describe cultural considerations necessary for international business and professional practice in technology in a variety of nations and regions.
8. Demonstrate scholarly proficiency in assembling thoughts and writing and presenting on a topic of relevance to technology, culture and innovation.
