ENE 58600 - Exploring Alternative Career Paths As An Engineering Educator


Credit Hours: 3.00.  This course is designed for graduate students in engineering or closely related fields who want to be involved in educating current or future engineering students or practicing engineers or in communicating technical material to others, including teachers, the public, or policymakers - but are not currently interested in a tenure-track faculty position. It explores a wide range of positions in formal education, informal education (e.g., museums, foundations), industry, and government and offers an opportunity to learn and practice some skills typically required for success in those positions.  
Learning Outcomes
1. Describe non-tenure-track positions of interest to them and where to look for those types of positions.
2. Build and maintain networks with people who have similar interests.
3. Prepare a professional development plan to develop and polish the skills they need in their current or future position.
4. Write an effective proposal seeking funding for a project of interest.
