MGMT 51400 - Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA): Practicum In Taxation Credit Hours: 3.00. This is a one-semester experiential course where students prepare individual income tax returns for low- and moderate-income taxpayers in the Greater Lafayette community. In addition to providing a valuable service to the community, students develop their professional skills and client service skills as well as proficiency with a professional tax preparation software product and a deeper understanding of technical tax issues. Learning Outcomes 1. Demonstrate and apply technical tax preparation skills using tax software to accurately complete tax returns.
2. Practice and refine positive client interaction skills to handle challenging situations effectively.
3. Explain complex tax issues clearly and accurately in a manner clients can understand.
4. Engage in discussions about relevant tax and client issues with peers and coordinators to enhance collaborative problem-solving.
5. Incorporate constructive feedback to improve technical tax preparation and client interaction skills.
6. Adapt and respond effectively to changing roles and stressful situations at the site to ensure smooth operations.
7. Contribute to the community by applying accounting knowledge to provide meaningful tax preparation services. Credits: 3.00
