EDCI 38100 - Classrooms In Context: Contemporary Issues In Education


Credit Hours: 3.00.  This course explores contemporary issues in education by examining classrooms as part of broader social, cultural, historical, and institutional contexts. Through case studies, narrative nonfiction, and research-based analyses, students explore how teaching and learning are shaped by institutional structures, policy environments, community settings, and evolving student needs. Students examine learning, instruction, and educational support in alternative contexts through a semester long field experience.
Learning Outcomes
1.  Analyze contemporary issues in education using scholarly and research-based sources.
2.  Interpret themes related to teaching, learning, school culture, and student experience as presented in narrative accounts of secondary education.
3.  Compare multiple perspectives on current challenges in education and assess their implications for teaching and learning.
4.  Apply educational theory and course concepts to interpret field-based experiences.
