EDPS 21200 - Collaboration And Family Engagement To Support Students With Disabilities


Credit Hours: 3.00. Students will learn strategies for communicating and collaborating with a variety of team members. Finally culture will be explored. Strategies for collaborating with family members, administrators, paraprofessionals and related service personnel will be explored. This course includes a field experience.
Learning Outcomes
1. Differentiate between professional and personal perspectives that impact teamwork and collaboration. 2. Describe how cultural values, context (e.g., social expectations, home language, resources, etc.), and experiences impact families’ educational involvement and student learning. 3. Describe the additional roles and potential stressors families of children with disabilities may experience. 4. Identify strategies and steps for developing home-school partnerships and facilitating communication with families and school personnel. 5. Identify roles and responsibilities of key members (e.g., speech, school counselor, general education, paraeducator, etc.) of the educational team. 6. Outline and describe strategies (e.g., collaborative goal setting, coteaching, planning, etc.) for training and problem solving.
