EDPS 30900 - Systematic And Explicit Instruction Credit Hours: 3.00. Students will learn evidence based instructional strategies for students with disabilities. The key components of systematic and explicit instruction will be explored. Students will learn how to use explicit instructional strategies to foster engagement and motivation. Methods for implementing systematic instruction across academic, functional, communication, social, and behavior goals will be addressed. Additionally, implementation in a variety of settings including 1:1, small group, and large group settings will be explored. Planning for generalization and maintenance of skills will also be addressed. Learning Outcomes 1. Contrast and compare a range of pedagogical models (e.g. Constructivist, Cognitive, Behavioral, etc) in special education.
2. Use formative and summative assessment to identify students current level of performance and inform instructional planning and decision making.
3. Identify instructional strategies necessary for promoting engagement, motivation, and opportunities to respond.
4. Identify components of systematic instruction.
5. Identify and implement a variety of strategies necessary for preparing the setting to support learning.
6. Demonstrate understanding of how to use flexible grouping to meet individual and large group needs. Credit Hours: 3.00
