POL 52101 - Applied Public Policy: Institutions, Processes, Practices
Credit Hours: 3.00. Applied introduction to the institutions, processes, and practices in the field of public policy. Students will examine the role of government institutions, standards organizations, corporate actors, and non-governmental organizations, policymakers, regulators, and the public in the policy process. The course will draw examples from one or more applied policy areas such as economic development, emerging technology policy, sustainability policy, energy, foreign policy, or social policy.
Learning Outcomes
1. Summarize and describe the institutions, actors, and policy process for different political systems. 2. Compare and contrast the role of political analysis and policy analysis for analyzing the viability and success of policy. 3. Evaluate a policy area and write a policy brief describing the history of the policy, current stakeholders in the area, the current state of policy, and emerging policy challenges or prospective changes. 4. Design translational communication materials to convey policy information to different audiences including specialists and non-specialists.
