POL 52701 - Local To Global Governance Of Data, AI, And Emerging Technology
Credit Hours: 3.00. This course introduces students to the institutions and governing systems at the subnational, national, supranational, and international levels that regulate emerging technology, AI, and data. Focusing on laws, standards, and best practices, students will examine comparative case studies of regulation of big tech in differing governing environments. Students will explore how social, economic, and political factors shape differences in technology regulation across the globe.
Learning Outcomes
1. Summarize the main policy institutions, stakeholders, and regulatory actors in subnational, national, supranational, and international settings as applied to area of emerging technology, AI, and data. 2. Analyze the current state of policy and its implementation in one or more regions or states as applied to areas of emerging technology, AI, and data. 3. Develop a proposal for best practices for managing the use of AI, data resources, or other emerging technology in a private, public, or non-profit setting. 4. Compare and contrast differences in technology regulation across the globe and explain common sources for these differences.
