IE 57700 - Human Factors In Engineering Credit Hours: 3.00. (PSY 57700) Survey of human factors in engineering with particular reference to human functions in human-machine systems, and consideration of human abilities and limitations in relation to design of equipment and work environments. Learning Outcomes 1. Describe the historical development and evolution of the field of Human Factors and Ergonomics (HFE).
2. Explain the foundational principles, assumptions, and methods that form the basis of HFE.
3. Apply scientific and probabilistic thinking to analyze and solve problems in HFE contexts.
4. Implement a systems engineering approach in HFE projects and articulate its implications for design.
5. Classify different types of human error and analyze the factors that influence their occurrence.
6. Apply facts and theories regarding human perception, cognition, and action to inform design decisions.
7. Identify and evaluate physical and environmental factors that impact human performance and incorporate them into design solutions.
8. Select and apply appropriate HFE methods, such as assessing mental workload and situation awareness, to evaluate alternative designs.
9. Develop and implement a plan for integrating human factors and ergonomics programs within an organization.
10. Articulate the critical importance of HFE in the context of today's technologically driven society and provide relevant examples. Credit Hours: 3.00
