CS 53200 - Geometric Modeling Algorithms Credit Hours: 3.00. The geometric modeling course will first introduce computational and mathematical concepts needed for 3D shapes, such as points, vectors, linear combinations, metrics, continuity, differentiability, and transformations. Then, it will describe mathematical descriptions of shapes and their implementations, starting from curves to free-form and subdivision surfaces, meshes and their simplifications, volumetric structures such as meshes, and constructive solid geometry. It will also provide knowledge of the fundamentals of procedural modeling (fractals, L-systems, terrain, and vegetation modeling). This course will also discuss modern AI-oriented methods for 3D shape generation. Learning Outcomes 1. Learn foundations of geometric modeling including geometry and topology. 2. Learn basic geometric objects, their representations, and operations including line, plane, and volume. 3. Learn algorithms and Data Structures for Geometric Modeling. 4. Learn curves including derivative, curvature, osculating circle, and continuity. 5. Learn surfaces including differential properties and special surfaces. 6. Learn volumes including space enumeration and constructive solid geometry. 7. Learn advanced shape representations including meshes. 8. Learn procedural models including fractals, chaos, and noise. 9. Learn AI-based generative models. Credit Hours: 3.00
