MIS 59300 - Business Data Visualization And Analytics


Credit hours: 2.00.  This course prepares students to transform complex business data into clear, effective visual insights that support strategic decision-making and stakeholder communication. Emphasizing both design thinking and analytical rigor, students will learn to structure, explore, and narrate data using industry-leading tools such as Tableau. The course integrates best practices in data storytelling with hands-on experience in dashboard development and advanced visualization techniques. Through team-based projects and real-world business datasets, students will develop the ability to convey data-driven insights to diverse managerial and executive audiences.
Learning Outcomes
1. Apply design and communication principles to develop clear and persuasive data visualizations tailored for business decision-making. 2. Conduct exploratory data analysis in Tableau to uncover trends, outliers, and patterns in unfamiliar business datasets. 3. Build interactive dashboards that integrate multiple visual elements to support performance monitoring and strategic insights. 4. Implement advanced Tableau features (e.g., parameters, data blending, level of detail expressions, custom hierarchies) to address complex business analysis tasks. 5.
