About the Sociology Program
The Sociology undergraduate program offers students the opportunity to examine the organization, structure, societal changes among the various social groups. Never has there been a greater need for sociological understanding and research focused on the problems and issues of our time. We combine rigorous methods of inquiry and analysis to examine social problems pertaining to uncertainty about the economy, health care, labor market, race and ethnic relations, mass media, the environment, social movements, shifting gender arrangements and issues, deviance and social control, and religion are just some of the issues you will study as a sociology major. The Sociology Department is home to the Social Research Institute (SRI). Purdue has a student chapter of Alpha Kappa Delta, a sociology/law and society organization. Students interested in legal professions and occupations are encouraged to join the Purdue Pre-Law Club. Law and Society majors may pursue a service learning course in their third or fourth year.
