About Anthropology

Anthropology considers humankind from a holistic perspective that aims for an understanding of how culture, biology, history and language intersect. Students have the option to enroll in one of six new 12-unit Concentrations in several specialty areas within the Anthropology major, including Applied AnthropologyArchaeological SciencesBioarchaeologyBiological AnthropologyCultural Anthropology, and Ecological and Environmental Anthropology Our faculty ably cover a range of substantive, methodological and theoretical areas in courses that provide students with a solid grounding in anthropological perspectives.

Undergraduates have an opportunity for hands-on experience and training in archaeological and bioanthropological methods.  Students enjoy participating in the student club P.A.S.T. (Purdue Anthropology Society).  Also offered are internship and field work experience.

Our honors program provides a capstone experience for students. The year-long program enables students to focus on a particular empirical issue in an anthropological sub-discipline and to write an honors thesis based on that research.
