About the Brian Lamb School of Communication Program

Many Purdue undergraduates experience the communication program, as each year more than 4,000 students across campus take a presentational speaking course from the Brian Lamb School of Communication (BLSC). Students who choose to major in communication within the Lamb School may focus their studies in one of eight areas of concentration:

The Lamb School has dedicated, full-time advisors who help students with course planning and career development and student organizations that provide opportunities for professional and scholarly growth. Graduates find careers in fields ranging from public relations to management, from law to ministry, and in areas such as sports and health.

Both inside and outside the classroom, Lamb School students build experiences to prepare them for careers. Our students produce live news shows and video news magazines, create a lifestyle TV show that airs on a local network affiliate, operate a student-run PR agency, and work in teams with local nonprofits to get real-world experience in public relations.

The communication program offers many international opportunities. In addition to the many programs available through the university’s study abroad office, Lamb School students can also study in many communication-specific programs. Semester exchanges can send students to Australia, Singapore, or Denmark, and summer programs in recent years have included Sydney, Australia; Stockholm, Sweden; and Siena, Italy.

In partnership with the Center for C-SPAN Scholarship and Engagement, the Lamb School offers “Boilers Go to DC” summer programs including class, internship, and fellowship options.

All Lamb School concentrations can be completed in three years. These course arrangements have the same number of total hours (120), and the same number of major hours (43), but those hours can be compressed into three years. Please visit Three Year Degree for more information.
