The Department of Finance at Purdue University’s Mitch Daniels School of Business prepares students to lead in a fast-paced, data-driven financial world by combining strong analytical training with real-world application. Rooted in the school’s STEM-infused approach, the department emphasizes the ability to interpret financial data, manage risk and make strategic decisions that drive organizational success. Students learn how financial markets operate and how capital is allocated across businesses and industries, building a foundation for high-impact careers.

The undergraduate finance curriculum begins with core competencies in accounting and economics before progressing into specialized areas such as investment management, financial analytics, corporate finance and venture capital. This progression ensures that students not only understand financial theory but also develop the technical and quantitative skills needed to apply it in real-world contexts. The program is designed to help students analyze markets, evaluate assets and support strategic financial planning in organizations.

Experiential learning is a central feature of the department. Students participate in case competitions, mentoring programs, and hands-on projects that connect classroom knowledge to real business challenges. These opportunities allow students to work with peers, faculty, and industry professionals while developing practical skills in problem-solving, communication, and decision-making.

The department also supports advanced study through graduate offerings such as the STEM-designated Master of Science in Finance, which integrates emerging technologies and global perspectives to

prepare students for leadership roles. Across all programs, faculty bring research expertise and industry insight into the classroom, enhancing the academic experience with current financial practices and innovations.

Graduates of Purdue’s finance programs are well prepared for careers as financial analysts, investment bankers, venture capitalists and other roles across corporate, consulting and financial services sectors. With its blend of rigorous academics, applied learning and industry engagement, the Department of Finance equips students to navigate complexity and create value in today’s global financial landscape.
