Admission Requirements:

The general requirement for admission to graduate study in civil engineering is satisfactory completion of a baccalaureate degree program at a college or university of recognized standing with a 3.0 GPA or higher. Candidates for admission must show promise of success as graduate students and have adequate preparation in their chosen areas of study. All applicants are required to take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Minimum required scores in TOEFL are:
Reading: 19
Listening: 14
Speaking: 18
Writing: 18
Overall: 90

Master of Science in Civil Engineering, Doctor of Philosophy

Master of Science in Civil Engineering

Master’s degrees are offered with both a thesis option and a non-thesis option. Twenty-one course credit hours plus an acceptable thesis (of at least nine research hours) are required for a thesis option master’s degree. Thirty course credit hours are required for a non-thesis option degree.

Doctor of Philosophy Program.

A minimum of 90 credit hours are required for the PhD; 48 hours of coursework and 42 hours of research. Up to 30 credits from one master’s degree may be transferred to the PhD plan of study. An acceptable dissertation is required of all candidates.
