Major Change (CODO) Requirements

Students will need to meet the criteria below to be eligible for this major. A student’s catalog term, typically the semester you started at Purdue, will be used to determine the Major Change criteria that applies to you. • Minimum Semesters:  1
• Minimum Credits:  15
• Minimum GPA:  2.5

2.0 GPA or better AND C- or better in the following:

• CHM 11500 - General Chemistry
• PHYS 17200 - Modern Mechanics
• Science Selective (typically CHM 11600 - General Chemistry  or CS 15900 - C Programming )
• Oral Communication Foundational Outcome Course (typically COM 11400 - Fundamentals Of Speech Communication )
• Written Communication Foundational Outcome Course (typically ENGL 10600 - First-Year Composition )

•  

• MA 16100 - Plane Analytic Geometry And Calculus I or
• MA 16500 - Analytic Geometry And Calculus I

•  

• MA 16200 - Plane Analytic Geometry And Calculus II or
• MA 16600 - Analytic Geometry And Calculus II

•  

• One of the following groups:

• ENGR 13100 - Transforming Ideas To Innovation I and
• ENGR 13200 - Transforming Ideas To Innovation II

Other Requirements

• Students are accepted for FALL, SPRING and SUMMER.
• Students are admitted on a SPACE AVAILABLE BASIS ONLY after a holistic review.  Space is limited.
• Students must be in good academic standing (not on academic probation).
• Students must submit a plan of study for the desired concentration that is endorsed by the Director or the MDE/IDES advisor. See Interdisciplinary Engineering Studies website for details.
• 2.0 GPA in a minimum of 6 credits in engineering courses 200+ level (AAE, ABE, BME, CE, CEM, CHE, ECE, EEE, ENE, ENGR, EPCS, IDE, IE, ME, MSE, NUCL) taken at Purdue prior to CODO.
• Students who are more than 30 credits from completing the minimum 120 credit degree requirements must have an overall cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher. Students requiring 16 to 30 credits for degree completion need an overall cumulative 2.35 GPA, and students requiring 15 or less credits for degree completion need an overall cumulative 2.2 GPA. Students who have completed all the IDES degree requirements need an overall cumulative GPA of 2.0 (same as applied to students in the program).
• Students who were in IDES or MDE at one time and processed a CODO out to another program will not be allowed to CODO back into IDES or MDE.
• The IDES/MDE website has more information for Reentry and Readmit students interested in changing their major to IDES/MDE.
