We are aware that there are many courses on the selective list that would not be very accessible to students outside of a specific department, due to major restrictions, pre-requisites, and so forth. We want to include those courses on the list, however, because they would be accessible, relevant, and appealing for students within the particular departments. For example, a student from the HK department might want to complete a gerontology certificate using HK courses in part. That would be very useful to the student, as in those courses they would learn health & kinesiology content that is specifically relevant to human aging (e.g., balance, flexibility, the risks and consequences of fall, and so forth). Since the certificate is available to students of all different majors, it has been designed to meet the needs of a wide variety of students.
