About the Program
A Graduate Certificate in Applied Statistics is an exciting and useful option for students who are in graduate programs (MS or Ph.D.) other than Statistics. This four-course Certificate acknowledges both a deeper level of statistical training and understanding of statistics, and differentiates the participant from his or her peers. Since the Certificate in Applied Statistics appears on the student’s transcript, often it is the deciding factor for employers when choosing between two candidates with the same primary degree status. Furthermore, the certificate can form the basis of an Master’s in Applied Statistics, if further study is desired. Program Website Program Requirements
12 Credits Required Required Courses (6 credits)
Substitutions of STAT courses numbered above 51700 may be approved. Credit for at least two of the four courses must be received while enrolled in the Graduate Certificate Program. Selectives (6 credits)
Choose two. Additional Information
- The certificate is intended for students who already have a bachelor’s degree in some field and who are not enrolled in the Statistics M.S. or Ph.D. program. (Certificate students are often enrolled in a graduate program other than Statistics.) This four-course program provides and documents formal expertise in statistics at the graduate level beyond introductory regression courses. Furthermore, the four courses can be used as part of an MS program in Statistics.
- Background courses, or equivalent, necessary for admission to the Certificate Program of the Department of Statistics are STAT 51100 and STAT 51200. Equivalency of background courses is determined by the Director of Graduate Programs, whom can be contacted for substitution approval at graduate@stat.purdue.edu.
