About the Program


The Mitch Daniels School of Business Master of Science in Finance (MSF) program provides a quantitative education that prepares students for careers in corporate finance, fintech, financial analytics, investment management, security analysis and brokerage, commercial and retail banking or financial management of commercial and nonprofit organizations. Purdue’s STEM-based program focuses on up-to-date technologies to transform students into professionals who drive results.

The 10-month, 36-credit hour residential MSF program incorporates real-world and research-based applications. The program offers a team-based environment with peers from around the world to help students gain a global business perspective and develop abilities in critical thinking and analytical problem-solving.

Corporate Finance


The Corporate Finance Track focuses on financial management and strategic planning. It covers financial analysis, investment management, financial modeling, corporate valuation, risk management, private equity, venture capital, and financial decision-making. Students will learn how to analyze, interpret and make decisions using financial datasets and will be equipped to use advanced analytics tools and programming languages such as R and Python. Students will gain hands-on experience with private finance via a practicum in the Student Management Venture Fund. This program prepares students for careers in corporate finance, investment banking, private equity, financial consulting, and other finance-related fields

Financial Analytics


The Financial Analytics Track focuses on applying data analysis and statistical techniques to financial decision-making. Students will learn to develop skills including data mining, statistical modeling, programming, financial econometrics, and machine learning. Students will use various tools and technologies to manipulate, analyze, and visualize large financial data, such as Excel, R, Python, SQL, and other programming languages. Students will also participate in the Student Managed Investment Fund, applying what they’ve learned. They will be prepared for careers in financial analysis, financial data analytics, credit analysis, investment management, risk management, and related fields.

Wealth and Asset Management


The Wealth and Asset Management track focuses on the principles and practices of investment management. It covers portfolio management, financial markets and instruments, security analysis, quantitative analysis, financial modeling, risk management, and financial engineering. Students will gain an in-depth understanding of investment strategies and use financial theory in real-world financial decision-making using modern data-driven techniques, advanced analytics tools, and programming languages such as R and Python. Students will apply their learning with the Student Managed Investment Fund, a self-managed investment fund. Upon graduation, students will be prepared for careers in investment management, investment banking, trading, portfolio management, and other related fields.
