Music Technology Certificate

About the Certificate


The Patti and Rusty Rueff School of Design, Art, and Performance, in collaboration with the Department of Music, the Department of Theatre & Dance, and the Purdue Polytechnic Institute, has developed a certificate program in Music Technology. This innovative program enriches the university’s technology offerings while addressing the needs of students eager to pursue their study of music and sound at Purdue. Students enrolled in the program will take essential courses and topics that include electronic music, digital signal processing, sound synthesis, recording practices, computer-based music notation, as well as music history and theory. Upon completing the certificate, students will possess both a theoretical and practical understanding of music and sound, explored through the lens of technology and computing. This knowledge will inspire future research and creative endeavors.

Requirements for the Certificate (21 credits)


Music Technology (9 credits)


Notes


  • Students do not need any previous knowledge or experience in music to complete this program.
  • At least 50% of credits for the CLA certificate must be from Purdue University.

College of Liberal Arts Pass/No Pass Option Policy


  • P/NP cannot be used to satisfy Liberal Arts Core, Liberal Arts major, minor, or certificate requirements.
