About the Program
As part of the Office of Interdisciplinary Graduate Programs (OIGP), the Purdue University Interdisciplinary Life Science Program (PULSe) is comprised of training groups of motivated students who aim to tailor their PhD program with a life science discipline. Students have access to innovative curriculums and diverse research opportunities that provide maximum flexibility and span multiple disciplines, as well as world-class facilities and resources. The core requirements are a combination of general courses, Training Group specific survey courses, and laboratory rotations. 16-19 Credits RequiredRequired Courses (12 credits)
Seminar Course (1 credit)
Lab Rotations Course (4 credits)
General Courses (7 credits)
Training Group Courses (4-7 credits)
Each summer, the PULSe office will survey new students on their Training Group of interest. After this information is gathered, each Training Groups’s Executive representative will give course recommendations, derived from the list below, for each incoming first-year student, based on the student’s Training Group and academic background. If further information is needed, students should contact the Training Group’s Curriculum Committee representative. Biomolecular Structure and Biophysics Courses
Chromation and Regulation of Gene Expression Courses
Computational and Systems Biology Courses
Integrative Neuroscience Courses
Microbiology, Immunology, and Infectious Diseases Courses
Molecular Signaling and Cancer Biology Courses

Graduate Programs Disclaimer
- The student is ultimately responsible for knowing and completing all degree requirements. Students should consult with their advisor/department for more information.
- Not all graduate programs may be actively recruiting students and course modality availability may vary.
- Please refer to the Explore Graduate Programs website for a list of currently available graduate programs.
- Transfer credit policy: Credits earned for graduate study at other universities (both domestic and international) may be applied toward an advanced degree. Only credit hours associated with graduate courses for which grades of B- or better were obtained will be eligible for transfer. Any additional conditions under which credit transfers may be made are determined by the various departments.
- Comparative information about Purdue University and other U.S. educational institutions is also available through the College Navigator tool, provided by the National Center for Education Statistics, and through the U.S. Department of Education College Scorecard.
