Major Change (CODO) Requirements

Purdue students interested in changing their major should meet with their current academic advisor to discuss their options and begin the online process. Once the student’s Major Change (CODO) has been processed, students will receive an email with instructions to authorize the change.

Students will need to meet the criteria below to be eligible for this major. A student’s catalog term, typically the semester you started at Purdue, will be used to determine the Major Change criteria that applies to you. Students can find their catalog term at the top of their MyPurduePlan below the degree progress bar.

Students changing their major to a space restricted program, as designated by SPACE AVAILABLE BASIS ONLY, need to have their Curricular Change Request (CCR) submitted by their home college/school by 5pm the Thursday of Finals week for requests effective the following term to be considered.

• Minimum Semesters:  1
• Minimum Purdue Main Campus Credit Hours (West Lafayette/Indianapolis): 12
• Minimum Cumulative GPA:  2.0

2.75 GPA or better AND C- or better in the following:

• ECON 25200 - Macroeconomics (UCC: BSS) Credits: 3.00  (EAI Course)

• COM 11400 - Fundamentals Of Speech Communication (UCC: OC) Credits: 3.00  (EAI Course) or
• COM 21700 - Science Writing And Presentation (UCC: OC) Credits: 3.00  (EAI Course) or
• EDPS 31500 - Collaborative Leadership: Interpersonal Skills (UCC: OC) Credits: 3.00  (EAI Course)

Other Requirements

• Students are accepted for effective terms FALL, SPRING, and SUMMER
• Major is open with no anticipated space restrictions
• Students must be in good academic standing (not on academic notice)
• Students who have exhausted their Economic Admission Index (EAI) attempts are not eligible for Pre-Economics or Economics, BA majors.
• A grade of C- or better is required in any completed ECON courses that are not part of the EAI.
• For students who start at Purdue, the EAI must consist of at least ECON 25100 and ECON 25200 or (3) Purdue graded courses.
• A maximum of three EAI courses may be repeated one time each for a grade.
• The most recent (not best) earned grade will be used to calculate the Economics Admission Index. Once a letter grade in a course has been earned at Purdue West Lafayette, students cannot use transfer credit for the same course when calculating the EAI. The Purdue West Lafayette letter grade will be used in the EAI calculation.
• Previous enrollments in MA 16100 and/or MA 16500 do not count in the EAI GPA if replaced with MA 16010.
• Additional repeat and transfer credit policies may apply; see the “Grade Requirements” section in the major plan of study.
