About the Program
Students typically-though not exclusively-seek a Master’s Degree in Agricultural and Extension Education in order to enhance their practice as secondary Agricultural and Extension teachers. Though a Master’s degree from any institution might serve the purpose of boosting salaries for teachers working in districts that (still) provide incentives for advanced degrees, a degree from Purdue conveys a level of integrity and rigor that both students and employers find meaningful and valuable. Agricultural and Extension Education students are required to take 9 credits of coursework focused on Agricultural and Extension Education or related topics of study. Students typically draw from graduate courses offered by the Department of Agricultural Sciences Education and Communication (500/600-level ASEC courses). Students can also take undergraduate Agricultural Education methods courses at the graduate level by completing extra projects that are grad-level-worthy. These classes are selected in consultation with the major professor. Electives (6 credits)
