Notes


  • A grade of “C-” or better is required. The P/NP option is not available to complete this minor.
  • 50% of credits for CLA minors must come from Purdue University.

Program Learning Outcomes


  • Identify key film terminology, genres, movements, historical developments, etc., across global cinema.
  • Implement principles of film form (e.g., cinematography, editing, sound, narrative structure) to critique individual films and scenes.
  • Analyze how the production and interpretation of films are shaped by cultural, social, political, historical, and technological contexts.
  • Critique films, and film scholarship, using established critical theories (e.g., formalism, auteur theory, feminist and postcolonial theory), supporting judgments with evidence.
  • Construct original written, visual, or audiovisual work (e.g., critical essays, storyboards, short films, or video essays) that demonstrates informed critical or creative engagement with cinema for various historical, social, and/or cultural points of view.

  • P/NP cannot be used to satisfy Liberal Arts Core, Liberal Arts major, minor, or certificate requirements.
