About the Concentration
The Applied Construction Residency Concentration provides an immersive, employer-embedded educational pathway that integrates academic study with progressive, full-time professional practice. Designed exclusively for students in the Indianapolis cohort, this concentration enables students to complete a structured three-semester residency experience with an approved construction industry partner.
Through the Applied Construction Practice sequence (CM 31500, CM 32500, and CM 33500), students engage in supervised, documented employment while applying construction management principles in real-world project environments. The residency model strengthens technical competency, leadership development, professional communication, and operational decision-making within active construction settings.
Students progressively assume greater responsibility across project phases including pre-construction planning, scheduling, cost control, safety management, subcontractor coordination, quality assurance, and field operations. Emphasis is placed on translating classroom knowledge into measurable project performance outcomes.
This concentration supports workforce development across commercial, industrial, infrastructure, and specialty construction sectors, and prepares graduates for immediate professional contribution in roles such as:
• Project Engineer
• Field Engineer
• Assistant Project Manager
• Estimator
• Superintendent-in-Training
• Construction Operations Coordinator
The Applied Construction Residency Concentration reflects Purdue Polytechnic’s commitment to experiential learning, industry partnership, and career-ready graduates who can lead in complex construction environments.
