Turfgrass Science and Ecology Concentration for Horticulture, MS or PHD

Location(s): West Lafayette

About the Concentration

This concentration emphasizes sustainable turf management practices, thereby supporting the broader goals of horticulture in promoting healthy and sustainable plant systems.

Research within this concentration includes:

  • Enhancing Soils for Improved Turfgrass Health: Studying soil biological, chemical, and physical properties and evaluating amendments, adjuvants, and other soil characteristics to enhance turfgrass growth and physiology.
  • Sustainable Turfgrass Systems: Evaluating and improving turfgrass germplasm for better adaptation to specific climates, and developing management practices that reduce cultural inputs (fertilizer, mowing, irrigation, pesticides, etc.) and improve turf health.
  • Studying Weed Biology, Ecology, Resistance, and Management: Developing strategies to optimize weed control and reduce herbicide use in turfgrass systems by enhancing herbicide performance and understanding weed species’ biology and ecology.
