|
About the Concentration
This concentration emphasizes sustainable turf management practices, thereby supporting the broader goals of horticulture in promoting healthy and sustainable plant systems. Research within this concentration includes: - Enhancing Soils for Improved Turfgrass Health: Studying soil biological, chemical, and physical properties and evaluating amendments, adjuvants, and other soil characteristics to enhance turfgrass growth and physiology.
- Sustainable Turfgrass Systems: Evaluating and improving turfgrass germplasm for better adaptation to specific climates, and developing management practices that reduce cultural inputs (fertilizer, mowing, irrigation, pesticides, etc.) and improve turf health.
- Studying Weed Biology, Ecology, Resistance, and Management: Developing strategies to optimize weed control and reduce herbicide use in turfgrass systems by enhancing herbicide performance and understanding weed species’ biology and ecology.
