Sports Communication Minor

About the Minor


This minor offers students the opportunity to learn about sports communication concepts while also engaging in sports communication through experiential learning. With many sports internship and work opportunities both in Indianapolis and Greater Lafayette, students can gain experience while also learning what goes into creating fan experiences, build lasting relationships between sports organizations, communities, and fans, and do the work of sports communication that ranges from naming teams to managing crises.

Requirements for the Minor (15 credits)


Sports Communication Content Courses (9 credits)


Students must take 3 of the following courses; no more than one can be from HK.

Experiential Learning in Sports Communication (6 credits)


Any combination of courses below must add up to 6 credits in order to satisfy this requirement.

Notes


  • No more than 1 course from HK can count toward the 15 hours of this minor.

Program Learning Outcomes


  1. Identify key concepts and issues in the practice of sports communication.
  2. Practice skills that will help prepare students for careers or responsibilities related to sports communication.
  3. Develop sports communication strategies that build relationships with multiple publics while also advocating for the sports organization.
