About the Minor


The Minor in Financial Engineering provides students with rigorous training at the intersection of finance, mathematics, and computational methods. This program is designed for students seeking to strengthen their analytical and problem-solving skills in preparation for careers in investments, asset management, risk management, quantitative trading, financial technology, or AI-driven financial applications.

Students will develop a strong foundation in core financial theory while gaining hands-on experience in modeling, data analysis, and derivative markets. The curriculum emphasizes both conceptual understanding and practical application, equipping students with the tools to value complex financial instruments, analyze risk, and design innovative financial solutions.

Program Learning Outcomes


  1. Explain core financial concepts, mathematical and theoretical foundations of financial markets, including arbitrage relationships, market efficiency, and the role of stochastic processes in asset pricing. 
  2. Apply computational methods and financial theory to value complex financial instruments, including derivatives, fixed-income securities, and alternative assets. 
  3. Utilize advanced statistical techniques, machine learning algorithms, and programming tools (e.g., Python) to analyze large financial datasets for patterns, volatility, and market trends. 
  4. Differentiate among alternative investment and financing opportunities by interpreting and comparing key financial metrics. 
  5. Evaluate sources of financial risk and formulate strategies to effectively manage and mitigate those risks. 
  6. Design and test trading strategies, fintech applications, or novel financial products that solve specific market frictions or investment objectives
