Agriculture Management Concentration for Human Resource Development

Location(s): West Lafayette

About the Concentration

The Agriculture Management Area of Concentration aligns with and supports the B.S. in Human Resource Development (HRD) by giving students an applied, industry-specific context in which to strengthen and translate core HRD competencies (e.g., talent acquisition, training and development, employee relations, compensation, safety, and workforce planning). Because HR functions are essential across all sectors, this concentration helps HRD students build agriculture-industry fluency-including familiarity with agricultural business operations, workforce structures, and the people-and-performance realities of production- and seasonality-driven environments. By pairing HRD’s people-development and evidence-based practice foundation with agriculture-focused coursework, students are better prepared to pursue internships and early-career HR roles in agribusiness, food and agricultural production, cooperatives, and related rural and regional employers. The concentration also supports Purdue’s interdisciplinary mission by encouraging HRD students to engage with agriculture-focused curricula and perspectives, strengthening cross-unit collaboration and creating a clearer pathway for students who want to apply HRD expertise within the agriculture and food systems ecosystem
