Entrepreneurship Concentration for Human Resource Development

Location(s): West Lafayette

About the Concentration

The Entrepreneurship Concentration within the B.S. in Human Resource Development (HRD) prepares students to apply people-development expertise in entrepreneurial, startup, and innovation-driven environments. As organizations increasingly operate in fast-changing markets, HR professionals must understand how talent systems, culture, and learning structures are built and scaled in early-stage and growth-oriented settings.

This concentration integrates entrepreneurial strategy with HRD’s foundation in talent development, performance improvement, and organizational effectiveness. Students explore venture creation, innovation ecosystems, entrepreneurial leadership, consulting for emerging enterprises, and market-driven decision-making. Through this lens, they learn how HRD competencies-such as recruiting, onboarding, learning design, performance support, and culture building-directly influence venture success.

By combining business literacy with people-centered development principles, the concentration strengthens students’ ability to contribute strategically in dynamic organizations. It prepares graduates to support founders, innovation teams, and scaling enterprises while maintaining HRD’s focus on sustainable performance, workforce engagement, and organizational growth.
