About the Concentration
The Leadership Concentration within the B.S. in Human Resource Development (HRD) strengthens students’ ability to lead people, influence outcomes, and guide organizational change. While the HRD major develops expertise in learning, development, and talent strategy, this concentration deepens applied leadership capability-preparing students to translate strategy into effective execution.
Students build skills in ethical decision-making, critical thinking, conflict management, and organizational performance. The emphasis is on leadership practice rather than a specific industry or technical domain, focusing on how leaders drive accountability, foster collaboration, and support measurable results.
For HRD students, this preparation is highly relevant. Graduates often serve as internal consultants, talent development specialists, HR generalists, or early-career HR business partners. Success in these roles depends not only on HR knowledge, but also on the ability to influence stakeholders, coach supervisors, and guide teams through change.
As an optional pathway, the Leadership Concentration enhances career readiness and competitiveness while preserving the flexibility of the broader HRD degree. It equips graduates with the leadership capabilities necessary to support organizational performance across a wide range of industries and organizational settings.
