About the Concentration
The Manufacturing Area of Concentration prepares students in the B.S. in Human Resource Development (HRD) to apply workforce development and performance improvement principles within production and operations environments. Manufacturing organizations depend on effective onboarding, technical skills training, safety and quality culture, and strong frontline leadership to achieve operational excellence.
This concentration complements HRD’s people-centered, evidence-based foundation by building familiarity with modern manufacturing systems, automation, and digitally connected production environments. Students gain insight into how technology, standardized work, and continuous improvement initiatives shape workforce capability and training design.
Optional for HRD majors, the Manufacturing concentration strengthens students’ competitiveness for manufacturing-focused internships and early-career HR, training, and workforce development roles by adding sector-specific knowledge and operational fluency.
