Biological Sciences for Integrative Medicine, MS (OL)

Location(s): Online

About the Program

The MS in Biological Sciences for Integrative Medicine provides advanced training in the biological foundations of health and disease using integrative, systems-based approaches and a One Health framework. The curriculum combines core strengths in molecular and cellular biology, genetics and genomics, microbiome science, immunobiology, disease ecology, and quantitative analysis with focused coursework in nutrition, natural products, pharmacognosy, and regulatory frameworks relevant to biologically active compounds.

Through a One Health perspective, the program emphasizes interactions among genetic, microbial, environmental, and lifestyle factors that shape health outcomes across populations. Designed for students from diverse scientific backgrounds, the major prepares graduates for further professional or doctoral training, as well as careers in biomedical research, biotechnology, regulatory science, and health-related industries, while maintaining a strong foundation in rigorous, evidence-based biological science.

Program Requirements

30 Credits Required

Program Learning Outcomes

Students will:

  • Explain the molecular, genetic, microbial, and environmental mechanisms that contribute to health and disease
  • Integrate knowledge across biological scales to evaluate complex health-related questions
  • Critically assess scientific literature relevant to integrative and systems-based approaches to medicine
  • Apply quantitative and data-driven methods to biological and health-related problems
  • Communicate scientific concepts effectively to diverse audiences, including academic, professional, and interdisciplinary stakeholders.

GPA Requirements

Students are required to maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 to be in ‘Good Standing’. Failure to maintain at least a GPA of 3.0 may be grounds for dismissal from the graduate program.

Graduate Programs Disclaimer

  • The student is ultimately responsible for knowing and completing all degree requirements. Students should consult with their advisor/department for more information.
  • Not all graduate programs may be actively recruiting students and course modality availability may vary.
  • Please refer to the Explore Graduate Programs website for a list of currently available graduate programs.
  • Transfer credit policy: Credits earned for graduate study at other universities (both domestic and international) may be applied toward an advanced degree. Only credit hours associated with graduate courses for which grades of B- or better were obtained will be eligible for transfer. Any additional conditions under which credit transfers may be made are determined by the various departments.
