About the English Program
In April 2019 College Magazine ranked Purdue’s English Department #1 school in the U.S for English majors. We offer students skills in critical thinking and creative problem-solving; the ability to conduct research; facility with language and written and oral communication; respect for diversity; and the capacity to explain complexities as succinctly as possible. You can choose from five B.A. programs: English (focused on literature), English Education, Creative Writing, English in a Global Context and Professional Writing.
Purdue has several student organizations for English students which include the Student Association, Haraka Writers, and the Professional Writers Club.
The Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL) offers a vast library of resources ranging from style guides to instructional material to assist Purdue students. OWL also is an international resource, with a Web site that receives nearly 100 million hits a year from more than 125 different countries.
