ASL and Deaf Studies Minor

About the Program

This minor is designed to benefit students with a stronger communicative competency that can provide them valuable skills to interact comfortably with the Deaf communities, in a wide variety of situations.

These required courses provide students with opportunities to continue building upon the topics, vocabulary, and grammar learned in ASL 101-202 courses. The main goals are to recognize and demonstrate more sophisticated grammatical features of ASL with focus on increasing fluency and conceptual accuracy. Students also develop learning strategies for more complex ASL features that lead them to appreciate the academic fields, such as ASL literature, linguistics, and Deaf history.
