Major Change (CODO) Requirements
Purdue students interested in changing their major should meet with their current academic advisor to discuss their options and begin the online process. Once the student’s Major Change (CODO) has been processed, students will receive an email with instructions to authorize the change.
Students will need to meet the criteria below to be eligible for this major. A student’s catalog term, typically the semester you started at Purdue, will be used to determine the Major Change criteria that applies to you. Students can find their catalog term at the top of their MyPurduePlan below the degree progress bar.

Students changing their major to a space restricted program, as designated by SPACE AVAILABLE BASIS ONLY, need to have their Curricular Change Request (CCR) submitted by their home college/school by 5pm the Thursday of Finals week for requests effective the following term to be considered.
General Requirements
- Minimum Semesters: 1
- Minimum Purdue Main Campus Credit Hours (West Lafayette/Indianapolis): 9
- Minimum Cumulative GPA: 3.0
Course Requirements
To be considered, a student must: - complete 3 courses (9 credits minimum): one course from each category
- 3.0 Cumulative GPA or better AND C- or better or equivalent as noted in each category.
Category I - Credit by Exam accepted
Category II - AP Credit, Transfer Credit & Credit by Exam accepted
Category III - AP Credit, Transfer Credit & Credit by Exam accepted
Other Requirements
- Students are accepted for effective terms FALL, SPRING, and SUMMER
- Students are admitted on a SPACE AVAILABLE BASIS ONLY after a holistic review. Space is available but rigorous.
- Students must be in good academic standing (not on academic notice)

The Computer and Information Technology CODO website has many resources available to assist students in learning more about our programs, courses and careers. It is strongly recommended that students meet with a CIT advisor. Contact CIT-Advising@purdue.edu for more information.
Step 1: Meet with your current Academic Advisor to discuss your plans for CODO. Review the information on the Computer and Information Technology CODO Website.
Step 2: Complete the CIT CODO presentation and associated questionnaire in the website above. If after reviewing the presentation, you have further questions, you can email CIT-Advising@purdue.edu with your questions or request a meeting with a CIT Advisor.
Step 3: Submit the required information to CIT-Advising@purdue.edu. After a CIT Advisor reviews your record, you will receive an email with the next steps.
Step 4: If your next step is to request your current advisor submit the electronic CODO application, the deadline is Thursday of finals week no later than 5:00 pm. Late applications will not be accepted.
