TSAP - Secondary Education English, BA

Location(s): West Lafayette

About the Program

English Education (EGED) is a comprehensive teacher preparation program aligned with state and national standards to prepare individuals to teach English language arts at the secondary (grades 5-12) level. Faculty have designed the program to prepare graduates who are able to develop critically literate participants in a diverse and democratic society. To achieve this goal, EGED conjoins best practices in teacher education with essential content knowledge in English language arts.

Students complete extensive coursework in literature, writing, and language-similar to that of non-teaching English majors but broader in scope. Professional education courses are taken throughout the program, including five content-specific methods courses (i.e. how to teach various aspects of English). Field experiences in local secondary schools are built in each semester of the program, culminating in a full semester of student teaching.
This program meets state and national licensure standards and is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and the State of Indiana, State Board of Education. See Teacher Licensure Information below.

For more information about the degree program, visit the COE Office of Advising and Recruiting.
