SWRK 37400 - Trauma And Crisis Intervention

Credit Hours: 3.00. Trauma and Crisis Intervention combines two important components of working with vulnerable populations in crisis. First, trauma-informed care aims to prepare students through research and best practice standards when working with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. Standards for competent practice in response to trauma are an ethical obligation of the profession, because the likelihood of encountering survivors of trauma in every practice setting is very high. Additionally, trauma-informed care recognizes the importance for students to understand the impact of the work on self, colleagues, the organization, and the system. Understanding the impact of secondary traumatic stress, vicarious traumatization, vicarious resilience, and posttraumatic growth is critical to professional growth and development. Second, Non-violent Crisis Intervention training is a safe, nonharmful behavior management system designed to help human service professionals provide the best possible care for vulnerable people involved in crisis situations. This training will result in the possibility of students becoming certified in Non-violent Crisis Intervention. Credits: 3.00
