About the Philosophy Program

The Department of Philosophy offers courses of study leading to the B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. In addition to research specializations from across the field of contemporary analytic philosophy, the department’s faculty also exhibit particular strengths in the history of philosophy and in continental European philosophy.

Philosophy graduates who apply to medical school have a high acceptance rate. USA Today has reported that of those who have gone on to law school, philosophy majors have performed better than students in any other major, which suggests that philosophy may be an ideal background for those intending to attend law school.
