Major Change (CODO) Requirements

Purdue students interested in changing their major should meet with their current academic advisor to discuss their options and begin the online process. Once the student’s Major Change (CODO) has been processed, students will receive an email with instructions to authorize the change.

Students will need to meet the criteria below to be eligible for this major. A student’s catalog term, typically the semester you started at Purdue, will be used to determine the Major Change criteria that applies to you. Students can find their catalog term at the top of their MyPurduePlan below the degree progress bar.

Majors

• Industrial Engineering, BSIE   (IE)

General Requirements

• Minimum Semesters:  2
• Minimum West Lafayette Credit Hours:  30
• Minimum GPA:  2.0

Course Requirements

C- or better in the following:

• CHM 11500 - General Chemistry (or equivalent)
• PHYS 17200 - Modern Mechanics (or equivalent)
• Oral Communication Foundational Outcome course (typically COM 11400 - Fundamentals Of Speech Communication )
• Written Communication Foundational Outcome course (typically ENGL 10600 - First-Year Composition )

•  

• MA 16100 - Plane Analytic Geometry And Calculus I or
• MA 16500 - Analytic Geometry And Calculus I

•  

• MA 16200 - Plane Analytic Geometry And Calculus II or
• MA 16600 - Analytic Geometry And Calculus II

•  

• One FYE Selective:

• BIOL 11000 - Fundamentals Of Biology I
• CHM 11600 - General Chemistry
• CS 15900 - C Programming or
• CS 18000 - Problem Solving And Object-Oriented Programming
• Note: CS 15900 or CS 18000 meet Industrial Engineering degree requirements. 

Other Requirements

• Students are accepted for FALL and SPRING.
• Students are admitted on a SPACE AVAILABLE BASIS ONLY.  Space is extremely limited.
• Students must be in good academic standing (not on academic probation).
• Students are allowed two (2) attempts to CODO. Appeals for a third attempt can be made; approval is not guaranteed.
• Students are asked to complete a CODO Inquiry Response form when planning to CODO.

Advising Next Steps

Interested students in changing major to Industrial Engineering (IE) are expected to schedule a meeting with an IE advisor as part of the CODO process. Students can email an IE academic advisor to schedule a meeting.
